Sep. 19th, 2005 08:31 pmWow.
That's all I can really say right now.
My dad and I drove to Arlington where my mom is staying in a one bedroom apartment (guess who got the floor). It was great to be able to see her, though.
Saturday we got up early to do everything we had to do. First, we went to the bank to set up an account for me and get me a debit card. Basically, my mom will transfer funds into my account whenever I'm running low. We also went to Target and Walmart for a major shopping spree. I got as much winter-y type stuff as I could find, but I'll have to get a heavy coat here along with a scarf, gloves, and a hat.
That night I put Songs For a New World in my cd player, not realizing until I heard the lyrics to the opening song how well it fit my situation. Actually, I think it fit the situation of everyone from New Orleans:
A new world calls across the ocean
A new world calls across the sky
A new world whispers in the shadows
Time to fly
Time to fly
Sunday we had an early flight to Houston where we'd catch a connecting flight to Chicago.
We were staying at the Marriot. My mom is a Gold Card member, so we got to go to the concierge's lougne for snacks and drinks. The waiter in there was an actor and had/was studying at Second City.
The beds were the most comfortable I had ever slept in and the comforter was pure heaven.
I awoke today and went with my parents to the Admissions office. I left them there and ran to catch my Voice Training for Musical Theater Majors class. Everyone was incredibly nice there, including this guy named Nate, with whom I talked about Family Guy. I had only missed four classes, but I had to get a monologue. Mine was from Company. W00T! Actually, it was the pot-smoking scene with Robert's and David's lines cut out. Still...
From there I went to move in.I met my roommates who are all nice. First, there is Hannah, from Minnesota, who is a Graphic Arts major. Next is Emily from California who is a Dance major (she's so sweet! She's letting me use her computer because I can't get my laptop to access the internet). Finally, there is Colleen who is a Musical Theater major. Funny, huh?
They introduced me to two guys named Matt and Gee (I think) and we ate dinner together.
When we came upstairs, Colleen was listening to music. I suddenly hear: "Why did ya do it Johnny? Throw it all away..."
Me: O.O! Assassins!!!!!!!*glomp*
Emily had a cd of her friend singing some broadway things (and she is FUCKING AMAZING) so we ended up belting out Popular.
I'm still adjusting and still nervous, but so far everyone has been great.
My parents are going to go to our house sometime this month. It's so toxic down there they have to get shots, wear fishing boots, and wear a respirator.
Also, it looks like my mom is being stationed in Washington D.C., so we may end up moving there.
Love you all!

as far as i know, i think i'm going to be staying here in abilene. my mom and daddy frank may try to go back and get anything that's salvagable whenever they're able to, but i'd rather not have to go through everything if i don't have too...
